Primary documents: resignation from the PDP and defection to the ADC
Two documents on the House of Representatives letterhead, published on the member’s own page and dated 12 March 2026, record his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and his defection to the African Democratic Congress. The notice cites Section 39(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, refers to “the good people of Yabo-Shagari Federal Constituency”, and bears a received stamp of the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Both are signed Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo, Dan Majen Yabo. This is the primary evidence behind the party change that Legis360 and LeaderBox had already recorded.

Nomination forms presented under the ADC; rally across Yabo and Shagari
The DEFENDER reported that he formally presented his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms under the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, before a crowd described as running into thousands across Yabo and Shagari communities. Supporters carried ADC flags and marched through major streets. Community leaders, youth organisations and women groups publicly endorsed the bid. He is quoted as saying the move was “not just about presenting a form… but about presenting hope to our people” and as “your son and servant”.

Daily Trust reported on 28 February 2023 that the PDP won a reps seat in Sokoto as INEC declared other National Assembly polls inconclusive. ThisDay reported on 2 March 2023 that a 37-year-old PDP candidate emerged winner of the Yabo-Shagari seat. The challenge by the All Progressives Party candidate ran through the tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
