Projects & Community Development

Bringing Development Closer to the People. For Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo, constituency representation is about more than speaking on behalf of the people. It is about helping bring practical solutions to the communities he represents.

Since assuming office, his constituency interventions have reached different parts of Yabo and Shagari, covering some of the areas that matter most in everyday life schools, healthcare, water, roads, agriculture, electricity and economic empowerment. These are projects in communities, not just announcements on paper.

Healthcare

Primary healthcare centres

The Donu Primary Healthcare Centre is one of the key projects delivered under Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo’s constituency development efforts. The completed and renovated facility is aimed at bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents of the community. Hon. Yabo inspected the facility in February 2026, meeting with community leaders, health workers and residents as part of the visit. The project is part of a wider focus on improving healthcare access across the constituency, with similar healthcare projects also documented in Ruggar Malam, Lambara and Gidan Maskayau.

Education

Classroom blocks

Investing in education means giving children a better place to learn and teachers a better environment to work in. Under Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo’s constituency projects, several classroom blocks have been renovated and improved across the constituency. These interventions are helping to reduce overcrowding, improve the learning environment and create better conditions for pupils at the basic education level. It is a practical investment in the schools and communities where the next generation is being raised.

Boreholes and Infrastructure

Water

Boreholes and water pumps

Access to clean and reliable water is essential for healthy families, schools and communities. To help address water shortages across the constituency, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo has supported the provision of 20 motorised boreholes, alongside other community projects. Earlier interventions also included the distribution of 50 water pumps and 50 2.5KVA generators to support farmers and communities. These efforts are focused on addressing real water needs and making access to water more reliable for the people who depend on it.

Infrastructure

Township roads

Good roads make everyday life easier. They help residents move around, connect communities, and allow local businesses and farmers to move their goods more easily. As part of his constituency development efforts, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo has supported township road projects in Sanyinnawal, Bulaga, Ebba Layout in Yabo, Police-to-Torankawa Road and Binjin Muza Road. These interventions are aimed at improving mobility, supporting local economic activity and making movement within the communities easier.

Energy

Solar street lights and a mini solar grid

Reliable electricity is important for safer communities, businesses, schools and everyday life. As part of his constituency development efforts, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo has supported the provision of solar street lights in several areas, helping to improve lighting and visibility within communities.

He is also facilitating the development of a mini solar grid in Shagari Local Government Area, aimed at providing clean, reliable and sustainable electricity to underserved communities. The project is currently in progress and has not been presented as completed.

Operation Light the Village

Operation Light the Village

Bringing electricity closer to underserved communities is another reflection of Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo’s commitment to grassroots development. Through Operation Light the Village, an initiative announced on 27 September 2026, the office is working towards extending electricity to village communities that remain without reliable access to power.

The initiative was announced through the office’s official Facebook Page and the member’s personal profile under #OperationLightTheVillage. At this stage, further details such as the number of communities, funding and completion timeline have not been publicly released. This page will be updated as more information becomes available.

Community

Mosques, renovations and welfare

Strong communities are built not only through infrastructure, but also through support for faith, culture and the people who help hold communities together. As part of his constituency development efforts, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo has supported the construction of Jumu‘at mosques in Ruggar Kijo, Lambara, Kambama and Doruwa, helping to provide spaces for worship and community life.

His community-focused activities have also included support for traditional rulers and constituents. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to staying connected with communities and responding to needs beyond physical infrastructure.
